Image and Screenshot Tutorial

When working with your own Wiki, you may want to add images. One can only deal with the monotony of a screen full of words for so long, right? So what if you want to add in a great picture, like this police report that a friend emailed to me this morning?

Adding a picture to your Wikispaces page is as simple as clicking on the "File" icon. A window will pop up that looks like this:

Make sure you are on the "Insert Files" tab, then press "Upload Files", select your image, and you're good to go. But what if you're wanting to add in a picture of something you've been working on from your own computer? For example, the picture right above that shows what the "Images and Files" window looks like. How does one acquire something like that? With a simple screenshot, that's how! How you capture a screen shot depends on whether you're a Mac or a PC.

Good news for you my friends. As long as you have the finger flexibility to press the Command, Shift and 4 keys all at the same time, you can create a screen shot. If you've done it successfully a set of crosshairs will appear. You'll just need to click and drag a transparent box over whatever screenshot you would like to create and "voila!", success. Note: If you would prefer to capture the entire screen, just use Command, Shift, 3 instead.

Instructions for PC Users

I'm not sure why this hasn't been simplified, but it's going to take you a couple of steps... Press your Print Screen button (Prt Sc) to capture the entire screen, or if you would like to capture an entire window you can hold Alt while pressing the Print Screen button. This will capture the image on your clipboard. From there you can paste it to an image program like Paint or GIMP and can save the image.

From There...

You should now have a screenshot that you can upload to Wikispaces in the same manner as you would any other image. Have fun and go make life easier on those visual learners out there!
